New Delhi: The Delhi University (DU) has decided to introduce online admission process from the next academic session. This decision was taken at a high power committee meeting of the university on Friday.
A member from the high power committee has informed that the Varsity has also decided to scrutinize the mark sheets and other required documents during this admission process which will prevent using of fake mark sheets and documents. The member also added that for students who are not computer savvy and do not possess the facility for online form submission, for them the university has decided for some other facilities. The teachers have also given a positive nod to this whole process.
More than ten centers have been decided by the committee, where the students will avail the facility for online application. Some trainers will also be appointed, to thoroughly guide the students with the online admission process.
The member from the high power committee said, they are trying their best to make the whole online process very clear and student friendly, so that no student finds it difficult. For students under OBC and other backward section, the committee has decided to give them a chance to change their subject after admission, for example, if a student has opted for Political science, and then wants to change it to History, according to the availability of the seats; he/she will be allowed to change their preferred subject.
The Supreme Court's order regarding the cut-off percentage of the reserved section will also be strictly followed by the varsity. It says that if the cutoff percentage of a particular subject is 90% for general category students, then for OBC and the other backward sections, it will be 81%.
The committee also had a discussion to fix the minimum eligibility for admission through ECA quota. Usually it is observed that when the cut off percentage for the general category students is 90%, students with the ECA quota can make it to the same courses with a cut-off mark of 60%-70%. So the committee has decided to set a bench mark to tackle such situations.
